Meet the girls

Mak and Jill have been friends since seventh grade. They both were lucky to have creative mamas who encouraged their artistic sides.

They have 45 years experience between the two of them upcycling furniture, creating works of art, styling and interior design. They have a beautiful store "The Abode" - located on Avenida Del Mar in downtown San Clemente, where you can find their upcycled furniture, unique finds, and so much more.

They are stockists of Chalk Paint® decorative paint and offer furniture painting workshops, teaching others what they have learned over a lifetime.

Antibes Green Garden Bench

I found these cute old chairs at a garage sale for next to nothing. The seats were missing out of them and I was going to replace them and upholster them, but they spoke to me and and wanted to be something new and different. With a little bit of new wood and some creative mistakes these sad old chairs have a new life. The bench has be painted and distressed. I sealed it with a polyurethane and it is now ready for a new home in the garden. If you love it, contact me at

I just saw your bench here: http://blogs.babble.com/the-new-home-ec/2012/03/26/12-cool-diy-garden-outdoor-projects/?pid=12555#slideshow
I was checking out the feature of my birdbath when I saw your bench. :) I made one recently very similar to yours.

Followed over from Funky Junk. Love this idea of re-using those chairs. I find these around a lot lately. I think the change from the floral decorating of a few years ago has prompted some to ditch their chairs. Now yours have a new life.

I love these! What a wonderful and creative idea! Thank you for sharing it! Don't know if I will ever have the courage to try to do it, but I hope so!

I really like this idea. I have two old chairs and I can't wait to turn them into a bench. Thank you so much for the inspiration.

I love this bench and would so love to be able to make one. I am riddled with arthritis now so its not possible sadly. The green is so bright and cheery.

Love this bench and have been looking for one in my new entry. I had some made out of my kids baby bed for each of them and they are really cute. Need to do this for me. Thanks!
